[VICTORIA, BC] Abstract Developments is breaking ground on their Sparrow project at 1301 Hillside Avenue. The ceremony was held at 12PM on June 4, 2021 and will be attended by Victoria’s Mayor, Lisa Helps, as well as key industry stakeholders.

The project was approved by Victoria Council last March and will deliver 49 homes including 9 affordable homes in partnership with BC Housing in the Oaklands Neighbourhood.

“This development is close to shopping, transit and other services and sits perfectly between six of Victoria’s most diverse neighbourhood villages and centres, so you are just minutes from amazing experiences and everyday essentials”, said Lisa Helps, Mayor of Victoria. “Affordability was a major factor in our Council supporting this project”, she continued.

The project is designed to encourage a car-free lifestyle and is located on major transit routes and steps away from future AAA cycling corridors.

“We have been able to help nine people get into the market who might not have been able to as a result of the City of Victoria’s Mayor and Council’s leadership in using their housing policies with courage”, said Mike Miller, President and CEO of Abstract Developments. “As we all know, housing supply is not keeping up with demand and we need to work together to get more homes to market”, he continued.

Construction is expected to begin immediately with project completion scheduled for the Spring of 2023.
