Recent years have seen increased levels of economic development in the CRD. These increases are in part due to thriving industries like the technology sector, which has seen its economic impact increase by a robust 30% since 2013. Opportunities for employment are increasing as well: in April, Greater Victoria had the lowest unemployment rate in the country with 3.1%. What are your thoughts on the job/economic development growth in the CRD? What do you see as some potential benefits and challenges?

In February, the CRD Board approved a motion to declare a Climate Emergency and identified Climate Action & Environmental Stewardship as a priority for the region. Addressing the causes of climate change and greenhouse gas emissions can be done by providing sustainable transportation options. This can be achieved by building complete communities and locating housing within walking, cycling or transit distance to shops, services, employment and amenities. Creating compact, complete communities also assists with planning for efficient and easy-to-use transit infrastructure. What are your thoughts on the current transportation options available to you? Do you wish you had access to better transit options? What do you think are some benefits of living in a complete community?

Strong and lively neighbourhoods are developed over time through change and growth. Public spaces and amenities like parks and transit infrastructure attract people and create this vibrancy. Some neighbourhoods are lacking in these public spaces or the existing amenities are over capacity. What do you value about your neighbourhood? What would you like to see changed? Is there any new infrastructure or amenities you think your neighbourhood could use?

The needs of the existing communities will need to balanced with the growing demand for more housing options. Various forms of multi-family buildings are the most sustainable way to build compact communities while providing homes for new and existing residents. Where do you think new housing should be provided in the region? In your neighbourhood? What type of building forms would you like to see in your community?
