Mike Miller

President & Chief Executive Officer

As Abstract’s founder, Mike brings his tireless drive and passion for detail to every project the company touches – big or small. Mike’s unparalleled dedication and commitment to providing the community thoughtfully-designed, high quality homes is the foundation of Abstract’s success

Since establishing Abstract Developments in 1999, Mike has been passionate about the process of design. Over the past two decades, Mike’s agility, reputation and business intuition grew Abstract into one of Victoria’s most highly-sought after residential builders and earned the company a host of regional and national distinctions. Abstract has received an unmatched number of awards, and the Victoria Chamber of Commerce recognized Mike as Business Person of the Year in 2011.

Mike has volunteered extensively in the housing community, as president of the CRHC and the Urban Development Institute (Capital Region), and as a former board member of the Canadian Homebuilder’s Association.

Rebecca Miller

Director of Sales

Rebecca is a driving force behind Abstract Development’s executive team. From her role as Director of Sales she helps shape the initial concept of each new project, onto bringing the concept to market and leads the sales team in working with new homeowners. 

For more than 20 years, Rebecca has worked in the real estate industry in various roles and locations. She began at a family-owned development and construction company in Cape Town, South Africa, and later went to Vancouver where she worked on the development of multifamily projects throughout the Lower Mainland. Upon returning to her hometown of Victoria, Rebecca worked in marketing and sales of new homes and multifamily developments before joining Abstract. 

Rebecca leads the company’s philanthropic activities and is influential in shaping Abstract’s role in giving back to the local community. 

Tavish Rai

Tavish Rai

Executive Vice-President

As Executive Vice-President, Tav brings recognized leadership and extensive experience to the Abstract executive team.

With a strong aptitude for numbers, Tav studied commerce before starting his career at a mid-sized public practice accounting firm in Edmonton while pursuing his CA designation. Part way through Tav’s articling he moved to the Park Pacific Group of companies in Victoria and worked as an Assistant controller for 2 years.

Tav started working at Abstract Developments in April of 2016 as our Controller. Since then, Tav has held the roles of VP of Finance as well as Chief Asset Officer prior to being named Executive Vice-President in 2021.

Tav’s expertise in project financing and finding viable properties for development has made him an expert in his field and a proven asset to Abstract Development’s group of companies.

Nicholas Standeven

Vice President of Development

As Vice President of Development, Nicholas leads all aspects of project development from post-acquisition to approval and coordinates consultant teams of professionals including design experts, engineers, landscape artists and architects. Nicholas manages a team of dedicated development managers and development coordinators and helps oversee internal approval processes. 

Nicholas studied at the University of Calgary where, after stints studying abroad in Chicago and Barcelona, he earned his Architecture degree. Following his studies Nicholas worked as an Architect on a diverse range of housing, commercial, education and transportation projects including the Fort McMurray International Airport which won a Governor Generals’ Medal in Architecture in 2018. Following this experience in private practice Nicholas moved to Mosaic Homes and served as a Development Manager for several years before joining Abstract Developments. 

Nicholas’s expertise in creating beautiful designs that are integrated into the community and are cost effective and energy-efficient has made him a valued member of the Abstract group of companies.
